Ibiza Medieval Festival 2016
A popular festival that is growing in popularity each year on the island, is the Ibiza Medieval Festival, held around the streets of UNESCO World Heritage site, Dalt Vila, which translates into English as “High Town". This years Ibiza Medieval Festival will be held over four days, starting on Thursday 5 May 2016 and closing on Sunday 9 May 2016.
The festival attracts crowds of over 50,000 people from all around Europe to witness a unique event that reflects the many civilisations and cultures that have passed through the island during centuries. The festival will feature all the colour and vibrancy associated with a multi-cultural event. Street performances such as jousting tournaments and parades are supported by market stalls, craft markets and traditional entertainment associated with the five main civilizations that made Ibiza their home. Flags, costumes and culture, relating to the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans Arabs and Christians will be on display with over 80 performances taking place each day within the walled city of Dalt Vila.
The Ibiza Medieval Festival is free to attend and all the Ibiza Museums, Galleries and exhibitions in the Dalt Vila area will be open to the public with no charge. The ancient town of Dalt Vila is considered one of the best preserved medieval fortifications in the Mediterranean and thousands of visitors travel to view the walled town.
